Please join the ACLU of Illinois on Monday, December 13 at 12:00 PM CST for a discussion on the future of reproductive rights and access in Illinois and nationwide, featuring Khadine Bennett, Director of Advocacy and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Ameri Klafeta, Director of the Women’s and Reproductive Rights Project. And, we are thrilled to also be joined by the Chicago Abortion Fund‘s Advocacy and Communications Associate Alicia Hurtado.
Together we will discuss our work on reproductive rights and access, including the ongoing implementation of the Reproductive Health Act and the recent repeal of the Parental Notice of Abortion Act. We will also provide a broad overview of what the ACLU and our partners are doing across the country – including at the Supreme Court – to protect and advance reproductive rights, and we’ll talk about ways you can take action on these efforts.
At this critical moment, when abortion rights are under attack, with states competing to pass increasingly restrictive laws to limit access to reproductive health care – and as the Supreme Court prepares itself to hear two cases that directly challenge Roe v. Wade – Illinois stood up in favor of increasing access to reproductive health care. In October, the Illinois legislature took the important step of repealing our harmful parental notification of abortion law. By passing the Youth Health and Safety Act, it was affirmed that abortion will treated like all other health care for the pregnant young people who need access in Illinois. However, even with this crucial legislative victory, there are still barriers to ensuring access to reproductive health care for all. Join us on December 13 to learn more!
